The Character Education Trust is looking for a new trustee for its Trust Board
We are seeking local volunteers to support the Character Education Trust that oversee both Aylesford and Wrotham Secondary Schools.
We ideally require someone with an education background, secondary school experience would be preferred.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly encourage interest from underrepresented groups in governance.
Why would you want to be a trustee or governor?
- To make a difference for pupils and the community: Contributing to the school/trust’s vision and ethos, and improving outcomes for children and young people.
- Using and developing skills: Applying professional expertise (e.g. finance, HR, legal, estates, data) and gaining new governance, leadership and strategic skills.
- Strategic influence and insight: Helping to set direction, hold leaders to account, and ensure public money is well spent.
- Personal growth and networking: Building confidence, teamwork and communication; connecting with professionals from varied backgrounds.
- Civic service and role modelling: Giving back as part of a diverse board that reflects the community and upholds ethical leadership.
- Career development: Valuable CPD, especially for middle and senior leaders in education or other sectors who want board-level experience.
What is expected of me?
We understand that those in our community have multiple personal and business commitments; despite this you may still have a desire to want to give back to your community in some capacity. We offer varying levels of time commitments depending on the committee that you would sit, this can be explained in more depth by our clerk.
A general list of expectations will be:
- Attend termly meetings; prepare by reading papers, and undertaking training as needed.
- Take part in Learning Walks arranged by the school. If you are a “link governor” we would ask that you meet with you member of the senior leadership team to gain a deeper understanding of the school’s performance.
- Work as part of a team, upholding the Nolan principles and our code of conduct (The Nolan Principles)
- Sit on ad hoc panels as needed
**Please note that when becoming a Trustee you will become a Director and will be registered with Companies House**
